Day 1: Quito – Cayambe Mountain Refuge
Our day will start at 8:30am for equipment rental, and then we will travel north about an hour to the city of Cayambe to have lunch. After this we will take cobble stone roads through dairy farms, potato fields and traditional Andean scenery until we reach the mountain refuge located at 4,600m. Upon arrival there will be time to rest and have some snacks, before heading out for a short glacier travel class to clear any possible doubts. The day will end with a good dinner and an early rest.
Day 2: Summit – Quito
After a wholesome breakfast we will start walking towards the glacier at midnight. With sunrise the majestic summit will receive us and a spectacular view of San Marcos Lake, Puruhuanta Lake and the magical Saraurco. Then on the way back to the refuge we will pack everything and head towards Quito around lunch time.
