The circumnavigation of the mountain range is one with breathtaking landscape, with bizarre mountains and glacier and often with beautiful „Lagunas“ (lakes). They are lying between camps fo the most spectacular trekking routes in the world. Santa Cruz Trek is a very popular and short trek in the Cordillera Blanca with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and lagoons.
For acclimatization, the trekking begins with the day trip to Laguna Churup.During the tour you will pass a long ascent to the 4750 m high Pass Punta Union. NevadoPisco is a very attractive mountain and a good option for acclimatized climbers. Experiences in mountaineering are not strictly necessary and so also possible for customers with less experience. The ascent is moderate and not really steep. At the summit with its attitude of 5752 m you have magnificent views of the Cordillera Blanca, also to the highest mountain of Peru, the 6768 m highHuáscaran.
Day 1: Flight to Lima/Peru – Overnight at hotel
After arrival at the biggest city of Southamerica with its 11 million citizensyou will have first a rest. Possibly you can go alone to visit the city of Lima.
Day 2: Bus transfer to Huaráz (3060 m)
The bus transfer over400 km to the Cordillera Blanca proves to be varied and promising.First you are driving along „Panamericana“ through impressive deserts on the pazific coast, than up into the highlands and on the 4020 m high pass Conococha in the Cordillera Negra in the Santa Valley to Huaraz (3060 m). If you cross the pass, you will have a clear view of the beautiful mountains of the Cordillera Blanca – certainly one of the most impressive mountain scenery in the world.
Day 3: Walking through the Andean villages to the temple ruins ofWillcawain
Wari-Culture (Huari). From Willcawain you begin the trek through a picturesque highlands and Andean villages. There are more possibilities either you walk in a Andean valley with waterfalls or you climb over a slight ridge to a small summit of the Cordillera Blanca mountain range. Here you have a impressive view of the mountain range. After than you visit the three-storey temple, which a small version of the temple of Chavin. Created between 800 and 1000 N.C.
After visit you drive back to Huaraz.
Day 4: Aclimatization Tours – walking tothe turquoise LagunaChurupon 4550 m
Today we are driving in the small villageLlupa.From here the trail starts on Inca paths towards Laguna Churup. The way gets smaller and steeper, but also more interesting, you have to climb a small part of climbing with fixed ropes. The trip to the beautiful Laguna Churup is one of the classical acclimatization tours in the Cordillera Blanca. It is one of the most beautiful trips in this mountain region. Near the laguna or just above is the mountain NevadoChurup – a wild, rocky mountain with glacier crashes of about 5400 m. Here you can continue to rise to make a circular route, which leads to the path of ascension.
Day 5: Huaraz – Cashapampa – Llamacorral
Today you get ofthe starting point of our trek. You drive to the valley of Rio Santa to Caraz and then along a small way to the direction ofQuebrada Santa Cruz. Along the way you meet Andinos. The farmers work hard on their fields. Farming is hard here. You reach Cashapampa (2900 m). Here our trekking begins. We walk about 4,5 hours to your camp in Llamacorral. First you walk along a narrow, lush vegetated valley and you come deeper in this unique mountain scenery. In Cashapamap your local team is already waiting – guide, cook and donkey drivers. Their donkies and mules will carry all yourluggage.
Day 6: Llamacorral – Taullipampa
You walk through the Quebrada Santa Cruz and reach the laggons of Ichiccocha and Jatuncocha. We see a lot of trees and lupines in every shadows of blue. A paradies for local ducks. Next go to the lagoon Arhueycocha (4450 m), the starting point of climbing Alpamayo. You enjoy the a fantastic view of the snowy Alpamayo, Quitaraju, Artesonraju and on the summit of Garcdilazo and Paria. Many people say: the snow-white pyramid of Alpamayo is the most beautiful mountain of the world!!
Day 7: Taullipampa – Punta Union – Paria
Today you have a long ascend with an ascent time about 2 hours. First we walk through meadows, but than the landscape will be more barren and rocky till to the pass Punta Union, an imposing mountain pass on 4780 m.Gigantic, the mountains of the Cordillera Blanca- the majestic mountain Taulliraju and Huandoy , Huascaran and many other mountains! The descend is very steep and leads you to a beautiful lakes landscape of the lagoons Morococha to the Huaripampatal.
Day 8: Paria –Trekking village of mountainVaqueria – Ascent Pass Parachuelo – Cebollapampa
After descending through the QuebradaHuaripampa, through romantical highland forests and wild bubbling brooks, you come through typical High-Andes. The farmers have here small animals and also some agriculture. And also in this attitude you can find some colorful flowers. From the small mountain village Vaqueria you will cross the Pass Portachuelo de Llanganuco , at 4750 m: fantastical view of the snow-mountains of Chopicalqui, Huascaran, Huandoy, Pisco, Chacraraju and Yanapaccha. And if you have a little luck, you can see vicunas! These are very shy relatives of llamas at a altitude of 5500 m. No wonder they produce the finest wool of all animals. From here, a car bring you to Cebollapampa, the base camp of the NevadoPisco.
Day 9: Cebollapampa– Trekking Laguna 69
The Laguna 69 is one of the most famous lakes in the Cordillera Blanca. The laguna is located direct to ice walls of Chacraraju, one of the most beautiful but also most difficult mountains over 6000 m of the Cordillera Blanca. Our way goes through mountain forests and swampy areas, always in view of a steep flank. The way is not always well to see, but we can recognize the route on the steep flank before you. If you turn around you can see the gigantic ice fortress of Huascaran. You pass many impressive waterfalls. Suddenly you reach the lake. Immediately of the deep blue water surface rise between moraines the steep ice walls of Chacraraju.
Day 10: CebollapampatoRifugioPisco
In the next two steps we reach now the highest point fo your trek. Today we walk in about five hours via Laguna 69, a unique landscape of lakes, to the Pisco hut «Refugio Perú», our basecamp on 4680 m. The view of the backside ofNevadoHuascaránandChopicalqui is overwhelming: The Huascaran is with his attitude of 6768 meters, the highest mountain of Peru. You will overnight at the Refugio Peru. You enjoy the view of peakHuandoy, ChacrarajuandYanapaccha.
Day 11: Summit NevadoPisco
Shorty after midnight we leave the hut, climb, cross the long moraine and reach the glacier. A steep ascent brings you to the col of NevadoPisco. Now begins the long final climb over the glacier to the 5752 m high peak of Cordillera Blanca! Now we have a gorgeous view of the highest mountain in Peru – Huascaran, also to the peak of Huandoy, Chopiqualci and many more. Then descend back to Refugio Peru.
The trekking groupe walk today comfortably in three or four hours to the high camp at “campo morena” and then you return back to the hut – Refugio Peru.
Day 12: RefugioPisco – Huaraz
Your trekking will be finished soon. Early in the morning you begin to descend to the direction ofCebollapampaand you walk along, till you reach the street. From there we drive back to huaraz with the car. Tired and happy you arrive the hotel.
Day 13: Reserve day or free day in Huaráz.
Day 14: Busfahrt Huaráz – Lima – Übernachtung im Hotel in Lima
Day 15: Free day depend on departure time – Return flight from Lima home
